Michigan State University (MSU) School of Packaging associate professor Laurent Matuana has been elected a fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), the world’s premier organization for plastics researchers and industry professionals.

At its Board of Trustees meeting, Michigan State University announced plans to open a new research institute in Midland, Mich., focusing on value chain creation and management and tackling many of today’s grand challenges in business, said MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon.
“Whether you’re talking about simply delivering safe water locally or fostering international competitiveness, effective value chain creation is key,” she said. “By developing more effective, sustainable value chains through this initiative, we hope to provide both an advantage for American manufacturing and pathways for the world to respond more successfully to human needs. In addition, we will cooperate with the Midland community in creating new knowledge and training opportunities, to help the region prosper in the new global economy.”

Virtual Package Design and Prototyping - start date of April 1 end date of May 21, 2015
Location: MSU School of Packaging Ternes Outreach Center
The online version of the Virtual Package Design and Prototyping Course for Industry Members begins April 1, 2015. Participants may start the course as late as Jan. 31 and still finish by Feb 28. In addition, an optional on campus session will be held on May 19-21, 2015 in the Ternes Outreach Center.

Packaging: the User Experience
Location: Ternes Outreach Center, Packaging Building room 120
This interactive, three and a half-day workshop teaches a unique system using targeted tools to help packaging engineers advance their skills in user understanding through all phases of packaging development. Developed in partnership with one of the most experienced educators in packaging, Bruce Harte, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus, School of Packaging, The Understanding & Insight Group, innovators in ground breaking consumer research and practicing packaging engineers at Amway R&D. This workshop was created specifically for packaging professionals who want to increase the value of packaging by improving the user experience.
Location: The School of Packaging Ternes Outreach Center
This hands-on workshop is designed for all levels of industry professionals that have a role in managing packaging and related operations within their organizations seeking a formal background in packaging concepts. The workshop will offer full insight in all aspects of packaging including function, materials, systems and processes, distribution and more!

Health Care Packaging Immersion Experience

Dinner on Oct. 20 runs from 5 - 8:45 p.m.
