Student Organizations

Student organizations provide an many opportunities for students. By working in student organizations, students gain experience in working in and leading groups, planning activities, and evaluating the results. Most student organizations also provide links to similar adult organizations. The following are three organizations which are currently active in the School of Packaging.

Institute of PackagingProfessionals (IoPP)

The Institute of Packaging Professionals is the primary professional organization for people working in the field of packaging. All Packaging students are eligible for membership in the student chapter of the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP). Activities include field trips to Packaging student events, attendance at packaging industry trade shows, company visits, and social events with other Packaging students and faculty. Regular chapter meetings often include guest speakers from industry or other programs. A faculty member serves as advisor.

Students also interact and meet with members of the professional chapters of IoPP in the state. Once each year, the Michigan Chapter, the West Michigan Chapter, and the student chapter hold a joint meeting in the Lansing area. The West Michigan chapter provides scholarships and also conducts a mentoring program for students.

Pi Kappa Gamma (PKG)

Pi Kappa Gamma is the packaging honor society. High-achieving Packaging students can be invited to become members during their Sophomore, Junior or Senior years. Among other activities, Pi Kappa Gamma sponsors an open house for Freshmen students each year to help ease the transition into university life and the organization also holds a reception for graduates and parents before commencement each Fall and Spring semester.

Packaging Graduate Association

Welcome

I welcome you to visit the home page of  the School of Packaging's Graduate  Association. This group is made up of  both Master and Ph.D. students actively involved in the packaging program. Please take a few minutes and browse around the site.

The School's graduate students are critical to the success of the School's mission. They are involved in our classes and many serve as teaching assistants in some of our most important undergraduate classes. In concert with faculty graduate students do most of the "hands on" research and thus are critical to the advancement of the packaging discipline.

The graduate students are also actively involved in our outreach programs, and interact with industry people on a routine basis. These students will become leaders in the packaging profession.
