Edgar Castro Aguirre
PhD Student, Research Assistant
Edgar graduated from Electromechanical Engineering in 2009, and then he worked as a packaging designer in the company Vitro by using CAD/CAM software until 2011. He completed his Master’s Degree at the School of Packaging MSU in 2013 in which he developed a respirometer system for assessing the biodegradation of materials and a computer application for data analysis. During that period, he also worked on the evaluation of performance of degradation-promoting additives for plastic packaging. Currently, he m a research assistant working on the biodegradation of bio-nanocomposites.
Edgar is working under direction of Dr. Auras. My research is focus on bio-nacomposite materials, more specifically PLA-nanoclay composites, the effects of these materials at their end-of-life, the impact of using nanoclays on the biodegradation of biopolymers and on the microbial population responsible of biodegradation.
