Sponsorship

Sponsor funds are used to offset the costs of the conference incurred by the LAC and SoP of MSU, as well, as offset cost associated with some of the research presented on at the Conference.  Examples of how sponsor funds have been used from past HcPIE events are:

New Equipment
Funding enabled the purchase of two brand new eye trackers and two computers in 2014.  One pan tilt (allows tracking on computer screen) and one head mounted (a system which allows us to track users with real packages).  These two are superior in both accuracy and ease of set up to the previous generation and enable us to objectively evaluate early stage processing of labeling with subjects of all types.  The purchase of these pieces of equipment significantly enhanced our ability to conduct research.
New Software
Funding has also enabled the purchase of change detection software and training of two students on the same.  This software enables us to objectively evaluate early stage processing of labels.
Research projects
Do Chan Seo’s work-  Funding enabled us to send a team of  eight researchers to collect data from Surgical Technologists attending the Instructors forum in Savannah GA and the annual conference in Denver CO.  Funding allowed us to provide transportation, hotel accommodations and meals for the students.  It also enabled us to rent booth space for both recruitment and testing in both location and purchase supplies for the same.
Tony Trier’s work-  Funding enabled us to send a team of  seven researchers to collect data from perioperative registered nurses attending the 58th annual AORN conference in Philadelphia, PN (2011), the annual   meeting of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) in San Francisco, CA the same year and  eight students to collect at the AST’s annual conference in Denver CO (2013).   Funding allowed us to provide transportation, hotel accommodations and meals for the students.  It also enabled us to rent booth space for both recruitment and testing in all locations, purchase supplies for the same and incentives for the subjects.  Healthcare providers are notoriously difficult to recruit.  They make a decent wage and work long hours.  Our strategy to recruit them at professional events has significantly eased our data collection, and enabled us to rapidly collect data from very specific populations that have significant work experience.  That said, it is incredibly expensive.  If it were not for the HcPIE, its attendees and sponsors, we would either have not been able to do the work, or it would have been underpowered (we would not have been able to make inferences).
