Juniors and Seniors majoring
in Packaging can gain industrial experience by participation in the
School's Internship Program. Internships range from four to eight months
and are related to packaging design, development, testing, production
and/or distribution. Interns usually receive a salary and can earn three
academic credits for this on-the-job packaging experience.
In the School of Packaging,
selection for an internship is a competitive process. Information about
available positions is made available to all students. Students then
sign up for an interview with representatives of the company. Students
provide necessary documentation, such as transcripts, resumes, etc..
After the interviews, the company representatives select a student to
fill the position. The process of requesting an interview is facilitated
through the use of a computer program called MySpartanCareer.
Career Fairs held in January
and Otober of each year, provide opportunities for the student to participate in the interview
process. In addition, companies often send representatives to campus
at other times.
A few students repeat the
internship experience. A second internship provides an opportunity for
additional experience with a company in a completely different field
or with a different company in the same field.
The student does not make a full-time employment
commitment to that company by taking an internship. However, companies frequently make
offers of full time employment after graduation to interns who do well.
