The AP has reported that Governor Granholm has signed the higher education bill for FY 2010 leaving the line item funding for MAES and MSUE intact. This means that the funding appropriated for the current fiscal year will be allocated to the university to support our programs. It is gratifying to have the Governor and legislature recognize the important work that the CANR, MAES and MSUE do on a daily basis to move Michigan forward. It is important to note that by signing this bill, MAES and MSUE continue to be treated like the rest of Michigan’s higher education institutions. This is great news for all of us but more important news for those we serve – students, families, youth, business owners and entrepreneurs -- all Michigan residents. Thank you seems such a small phrase to express our appreciation for everyone who worked so hard to communicate the impact that CANR, MAES and MSUE have on our communities. Whether across the street or around the state, MSU is present helping to build capacity to make Michigan a leader in agriculture and natural resources, community viability, food and nutrition, the green economy, and leadership. Our services are relevant and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve. This result can be owned by each and every one of you who made a call, sent an email, opened a door or wrote a letter. Our strength lies in our collective energy that is focused on our mission. It is an honor to work with such dedicated, creative and passionate colleagues. We still have many challenging months ahead of us as we implement the redesign of the CANR, MSUE and MAES. But for now, let’s take a moment to appreciate and acknowledge everyone and anyone who has helped CANR, MAES and MSUE survive this very real threat to our future
